Jessie Brooks is a comedy writer, performer & improviser based in Leeds.

She was selected to take part in ScratchMe, a character development scheme in conjunction with Fulwell 73 and BFI North, working with industry mentors to develop a short teaser film alongside producer director team Andy Berriman and Dalton Deverell. The film reached the finals of the Pigeon Laughs comedy festival.

Her first solo work, ‘Under the Mumfluence’, funded by Arts Council England, is currently in development and was presented as a work-in-progress at Slung Low in Leeds earlier this year.

Jessie is also one half of You Need Help, a comedy theatre duo delivering seminars skewering the self-help industry. ‘Leeds Need Help’ was commissioned by Leeds International Festival (2019) and their ACE funded ‘You Need Help’ show was performed at Leicester comedy festival in 2020. 

Since completing an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Central School of Speech and Drama she has participated in Starting Blocks with Camden People’s Theatre, toured prisons with prison play ‘Barred’ by Dean Stalham and co-devised shows at Theatre in the Mill and Richmix London. She regularly performs improv comedy with Manchester troupe Murder Inc. across the north.
